I am currently a student at The King’s College in Manhattan where I study media, culture, and the arts. I moved to New York two years ago after graduating high school in Carmel, IN. I am recently married, and met my husband Mark during my second semester in school here in New York. I was brought up as almost a second mom to my three younger brothers. My mother was a children’s ministry director for a large church in Indianapolis, and I was always her on-call substitute teacher or quick solution for families in need of a babysitter.

I’ve been a regular babysitter for several families in the Indianapolis area since I was 12 years old. I still sit for these families when I come home for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I have experience with all ages and with several children at once, and I really enjoy working with kids. In high school my passion for theatre grew and, through the backstage work I had done, I was referred to a local children’s theatre in Carmel, IN, where I worked as an office manager and stage manager. It was amazing to see the children in our summer camps grow and learn the craft so near to my heart. They even came to the plays put on by our adult actors. I sat back in a booth and several kids came back to say hello to me and introduce me to their families. I’m hoping my degree at The King's College will lead me toward a similar job. I have also been a full-time nanny for four siblings ages 6-14. Last summer when I sat for them was one of the best summers I have ever had.

Children are really a passion of mine and while I’m not working toward being a teacher (like my husband is), I would love to have a career working with children.

I will be SmartSitting while...

Finishing my last year of school.

My childcare expertise lies in working with…

All ages of children. I have to most experience with school-aged children but I'm comfortable and have experience with babies through teenagers.

Activities and skills I love to teach and share with children:

I'm great at cooking/baking and crafts. I'm proficient in German. I play piano, trombone, baritone, and now am working on bass.

Most memorable childcare experience:

My most memorable childcare experience happened when I wasn't even actually sitting. I had come out to the Hamptons to visit the girls I'm an after-school sitter for every day during the school year. I hadn't seen them in several weeks and I was really excited to get there. They had 2 hours before they had to leave to catch a flight for vacation and during those 2 hours they were attached to my side. Both of them kept trying to hold my hand and they wanted to show me EVERYTHING they had been doing all summer. It was such a great feeling to know that I'd made such an impact on them and that they were so excited to get back to the city and see me in the fall.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Working for a museum. I want to help create and re-create programs for kids who visit places like the MET and MoMa on any given day to make learning about art and history really interesting to them.
