I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies at CUNY Graduate Center. My schedule allows me to also pursue something else that brings me a lot of joy – working with children. From babysitting, to working with youth at summer camp to taking care of my own niece, I have always had children in my life. It is my hope to find a family for whom I can provide creativity, fun and confidence by caring for their child(ren)
Originally from eastern Washington, I grew up watching my younger sister and babysitting my neighbors living on both sides of our family’s home – one family of four boys and the other, an only girl. When I was on summer breaks, I would work with our church’s youth camps.
When I started my academic career at the University of Washington, I joined the IRC and began to volunteer, tutoring Somali refugees. My brother and sister-in-law moved to Seattle sometime after and I’ve had the opportunity to help raise my niece for the past three years. Now that I am living across the United States, I would love the opportunity to keep children in my everyday life.

Most memorable childcare experience:
When I was tutoring Somali refugees, there was a 10 year old boy who told me that his bike was "broken". We looked at the bike and I discovered that it was something I could easily fix. I got the measurements, went home and bought an inner tube for his flat tire; the next week we fixed his bike after tutoring.
It was very rewarding for me to be able to help this boy who had been through so much to come to the United States already, and whose parents may not have been able to verbally convey to a store clerk, what part was needed to fix their son's "broken" bike. I loved to leave him with a smile on his face, knowing that I helped put it there.
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Close to finishing a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies and on my way to becoming a professor!
I am a:
College graduate, an infant sitter
