I am a college student trying to get by in the city I love. I’m extremely involved at my school and volunteer as much as I can. Consistently, I find that working with children in any capacity is extremely rewarding. I am the eldest of three girls and have three very young second cousins that I miss dearly as well. I have always had little ones around to teach and to learn from, to entertain and to be entertained by. New York is my home now and I would truly appreciate the opportunity to share my passion and love of life with a family by helping to care for their children.

Most of my life to date has been spent in Florida. Growing up, I was constantly watching over my younger sisters and cousins. Beginning in middle school, I worked as a pet sitter and babysitter for neighbors as well as a local temple. I moved to Manhattan in 2009 to attend Fordham University. I spend a great deal of my time here working to make sure that younger students have as amazing an experience as I have had. I also devote a lot of time to volunteer work through New York Cares. Many of my experiences with this organization have involved working with children. I regularly volunteered with a therapeutic horseback riding class for kids on the autism spectrum. I’ve also worked with KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) on several Saturdays. I am currently a volunteer team leader for a project called Blankets of Love with FEGS. We knit squares which will be combined into blankets and given to foster children as they age out of the system. In my spare time, I bake for everyone in my dorm building. I love to sing and I thrive on diversity. I am a couch surfer and am continually meeting amazing people from all over the world. These people enrich my life beyond words and help me to cultivate a more global perspective.

I will be SmartSitting while...

Continuing to grow at Fordham University Lincoln Center and volunteering as much as I can.

My childcare expertise lies in working with…

School-aged children, but I have experience with kids of all ages. I am comfortable working with siblings and infants!

Activities and skills I love to teach and share with children:

I share my love of books with children using my storytelling voice! Cooking and baking are a great way to learn and have fun (not to mention eat delicious food) at the same time. I also really enjoy getting active with kids. I played soccer for a long time and love teaching and coaching.

Most memorable childcare experience:

In the summer of 2011, I participated in a three-week service/cultural immersion project that ranged across the western United States. We drove from New York City to Alamosa, Colorado in three days. On our first full day there, some of us had the opportunity to work with our partner program's day camp. One of the little girls that attached herself to me for the day was engaged and sullen by turns. I couldn't get her to really connect with the activities all the other kids were doing. She was obviously very sad about her situation at home. Around the middle of the day, it was time for the kids to read and the same girl asked me to read a book she really liked to her. I got into it, doing different voices, and had her help me by doing the onomatopoeia. The book gave us something in common and I think she appreciated the fact that I took it (and her) seriously. She opened up so much to me throughout the rest of the day and we were able to form a much closer bond than I ever would have expected.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

A web designer doing custom work on my own time and continuing to volunteer in New York City!

I am a:
