I come from a large family of musicians, actors and writers. I began singing and drumming at age 2, writing and performing plays at age 5, and formal study of singing, musicianship, and acting at age 7. Experienced in teaching students ages 3 to 58, I believe in nurturing the artist's creative spark from a very early age. As a teacher, I don't believe in teaching child-performer tricks that push kids into stagey and corny habits for the sake of an immediate product or performance, but rather tools that they can carry with them for a lifetime of creative work. My studio is a place where process, creativity, and self-discovery are paramount, and the student is encouraged to build both self-knowledge and technique slowly and with full engagement. This way the young artist is nurtured towards a lifelong relationship to the art and the craft being built.
I am an energetic and compassionate Columbia graduate with a very flexible schedule. I am currently working on my thesis (first novel) and just finished teaching Creative Writing with the Columbia Summer High School Program.
I have a background in arts and education and love making things, reading, writing, baking, being outdoors and engaging one on one with children in fun stimulating activities.
